In Indonesia, there are so many types of chilies pepper that spread in most Indonesian regions.

1. The Big Green Chilli Pepper

The big green chili pepper is one of Indonesia’s local chili pepper that has the lowest level of spiciness. It has a big size and sharp edge with about 5cm long in size.

Commonly, you can find the big green chili pepper in some Indonesian main dishes like the Tempe stir-fried. Commonly, people use it for the garnish in their main dish so that it has a great color combination.

2. The Curly Green Chilli Pepper

The curly green chilly pepper is one of Indonesia’s local chili pepper that has a bit higher spiciness level than the big green chili pepper. It doesn’t taste too spicy so that people who could not tolerate the spicy food can handle it.

Commonly, the curly green chili pepper is using in some stir-fried Indonesian dishes. It is perfect to eat with the rice that just cooked perfectly from the rice cooker.

3. The Big Red Chilli Pepper

The Big Red Chilli Pepper is one of Indonesia’s local chili pepper that has an intermediate level of spiciness. It has about 5 – 6 cm long in size with shiny skin, a bit fatty, and a sharp edge.

Commonly, Indonesian using the Big Red Chilli Pepper for so many Indonesian dishes. They will smoothen them using a blender or Indonesian traditional kitchen tools like Cobek. You can find it such as in Balado cuisine, Sambal Goreng, Sambal Mentah, and many more.

4. The Curly Red Chilli Pepper

The curly red chili pepper is one of Indonesia’s local chili pepper that has a higher level of spiciness above the big red chili pepper. It has as long in size as the big red chili pepper but has a curly and slimmer form.

The curly red chili pepper taste will be a good combination with the stir-fried Indonesian dishes. Most of them you can find at the Indonesian food that only comes in Eid al Fitr. It will give you a spicy sensation at an intermediate level which loves by common Indonesian people.

5. The Red Bird’s Eye Chilies

The red bird’s eye chilies have a higher level of spiciness level than the curly red and big red chili peppers. It becomes one of the most favorite chili pepper for Indonesian who loves spicy foods. It has a small size with an orange or red color.

As the color of the red bird’s eye chilies gone red, so that the spiciness level becomes higher. That makes this chili pepper is perfect to make some specific Indonesian unique chili sauces. You can find it at Sambal Matah, Sambal Bawang, and other Indonesian main dishes.

6. The Green Bird’s Eye Chilies

The green bird’s eye chilies are one of the Indonesian’s local chili pepper that has a higher level of spiciness than the red bird’s eye chilies. It has an endure spicy feeling on your tongue after you take a bite on them.

Whether you take a bite directly or put it on some Indonesian dishes, the spicy taste will stronger on your mouth. Moreover, if you are eating them with some hot main dishes that just cooked from the kitchen.

7. Gendot Chilli Pepper

Gendot chili pepper is one of the Indonesian’s local chili paper that has a small and fatty size. It is so crunchy but has the highest level of spiciness that you can’t imagine, rather than another type of chili peppers in Indonesia.

Gendot chili pepper commonly is using to make a chili sauce, stir-fried Indonesian famous main dishes, and many more. You can also take a bite directly while eating some snack of fried food.

8. Jalapeno Chilli Pepper

Jalapeno chili pepper is one of Indonesia’s local chili pepper that has an almost similar look as the big green chili pepper. Hence it has a smaller size than the big green chili, but the taste is spicier than you taught.

Comparing with the other type of Indonesian’s local chili pepper, the Jalapeno chili has a higher level of nutrition. It  more nutritious with higher of Vitamin A and C than the other type of Indonesian chilies.

9. Paprika

Paprika is one of Indonesia’s local chili pepper that has a combination taste of spicy and sweet. Indonesian commonly using it as the combination food on their main dishes, but not to be found for the spiciness level. They will prefer another type of chilies to meet their spiciness level expectation.

You can find Paprika in most Indonesian pizza, bun, or main dishes.

10. Katokkon

Katokkon is one of Indonesia’s local chili pepper that has a smallest and curly size than another type of chilies in Indonesia. It comes from the Toraja tribe in North Sulawesi, which has the highest spiciness level of Indonesian chilies.

You can find Katokkon in most of the Indonesian main dishes that need some spicy level which is perfect to eat with the Indonesian staple food.
