Indonesian food always makes us mouthwatering even only heard them by name. If you ever visiting Indonesia, you will know Indonesia has the most unique food that you will never find them in another country.

Speaking of food, there are so many kinds of food for every occasion in Indonesia includes when the Eid Al Fitr comes. During the Eid, Indonesian cuisine will be dominated by some specific food that you will never found them on a usual day.

1. Ketupat

Ketupat is made from rice that wraps in the coconut leaf as the main dish in every Eid day. Ketupat can be served with every Indonesian cuisine as the most common Indonesian staple food.

Even though made fro rice, Ketupat is different from usual rice. It is more crowded and soft and so delicious to eat with Rendang or Chicken Opor as the Indonesian famous main dish on Eid day.

2. Chicken Opor

Chicken Opor is a must side dish in Eid. It is made from chicken that combines with coconut milk so that it will make a great taste. It has the most succulent and savory taste from its herbs as part of the characteristic of Indonesian cuisine.

Commonly the Chicken Opor always using some herbs so that bit has a great taste. You can add some lemongrass, galangal, and turmeric. It is perfect to serve with the chilly sauce, onion fried, and Ketupat.

3. Sambal Goreng Kentang and Ati

Sambal Goreng Kentang and Ati are one of Indonesian cuisine that you can only find on Eid day. It was made from potato and heart of chicken that cooked perfectly with chilly or petai. The taste is a bit spicy but so tasty with some herbs on it.

The potato should be cut on the square form in little pieces and so that the Ati. They become a great collaboration while you eat with Ketupat and the Opor.

4. Rendang

Rendang becomes the most favorite Indonesian food while Eid Al Fitr comes which originally comes from the traditional food of Minang Kabau, West Sumatera. Commonly it made from beef that cooked perfectly for hours with Indonesian herbs and spices. It is perfect to serve with the Ketupat and the Opor as the side dish.

The spices usually used in rendang include chilies, lemongrass, galangal, turmeric, ginger, and onions. Rendang has a distinctive flavor mixture of various kinds of spices, but the dominant flavors are salty, sweet, and savory.

5. Semur

Semur or stews is one of soup made by boiling meat that is processed with a dark brown sauce made from soy sauce, shallots, garlic, nutmeg, and other spices. Stews usually contain beef, chicken, and potatoes. The contents of stews can also vary, such as adding tempeh, eggs, tofu, fish, and other ingredients according to taste.

On the Eid day, you will find the Semur that serves with the Ketupat. Commonly it tastes a bit sweet but savory inside so that everyone loves it. If you are visiting Jakarta, you will find the Semur Jengkol from Betawi cuisine on Eid day.

6. Vegetables Gulai

Gulai becomes the side dish after Opor, Rendang, and Ketupat. It is made of coconut milk that commonly combines with vegetables. It mixes from cassava leaves, spinach, jackfruit, and various other green vegetables. The ingredients for this vegetable curry are coconut milk, turmeric, onions, galangal, ginger, and coriander.

The sensation of delicious coconut milk is perfect with fresh vegetables so that you will not be bothered by eating some meat on Eid day.

7. Nastar

Nastar is special cookies on Eid day and you will never find it on a usual day. It was made from the cookie dough and pineapple jam inside. Nastar is a cookie made from a dough of flour, butter, eggs, and vanilla.

Nastar has a round shape with a size of about 2 centimeters in diameter which is then filled with pineapple jam, chocolate, strawberry, or other jam according to taste.

8. Kastengel

Kastengel is another Indonesian cookies that you can find during the Eid instead of Nastar. Kastengel is a pastry made from a dough of flour, eggs, margarine, and grated cheese. This cake is a rectangle about 3 centimeters long.

The taste of Katengel is a bit salty but so tasty from the cheese. That is why everyone loves it the most as the Eid snack.

9. Putri Salju Cookie

Putri Salju is one of the Indonesian cookies that you can find only during Eid day. The cake is shaped like a crescent moon and topped with powdered sugar that makes it look like snow. Snow princess is made from a mixture of flour, cornstarch, butter, and egg yolk.

The sensation of eating this cake is loved by everyone because its delicious, tasty, and cold taste in every bite.

10. Peyek

Peyek commonly comes in a peanut or soy Peyek is one of the popular food in Yogyakarta. This special snack is almost existed in all over Indonesia. The savory and salty taste makes your tongue reluctant to stop chewing. It looks like a kind of cracker but the taste is very strong, especially if you add peanuts or small anchovies, the more you have to add the aroma of peanut brittle.

The making of peanut Peyek is very cheap, easy, and runs out instantly because it is so tasty. There is one tip so that your peanut Peyek does not crumble quickly. You need to mix the dough with more eggs so that it will not easily be crushed.
