Some Papua regencies are the most remote areas in Indonesia that is well-known since many decades ago. As the eastern part of Indonesia, Papua Island is popular with its difficult access for many sectors that are different from some smallest Indonesian cities by size.

It is reported that some Papua regencies still struggle to get easier access, such as public facilities, transportation, electricity, clean water, and even food supply. Education and entertainment also come slower compared to other regencies in Indonesia.

Even so, some Papua regencies have so many popular tourist spots, such as Lorentz National Park, Baliem Valley, Sentani Lake, and many more.

2. Some of West Papua’s Regencies

Some of the West Papua regencies are the most remote areas in Indonesia that need more concern from the Indonesian government. There are eight regencies out of 12 regencies in West Papua, which means half of the regencies there are far from modernity.

4. The North Part of Lombok

The north part of Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara is the most remote area in Indonesia. The area getting far to reach the proper facilities such as public facilities, education, and other matters.

The north part of Lombok has so many beautiful gems for tourism visits, such as Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, Gili Meno, Segara Anak Lake, and many more. Even so, it has a higher poverty rate. Some facilities need to be adequately developed so that those beautiful tourist spots can be easier to reach for helping the locals rising their income.

5. East Nusa Tenggara

East Nusa Tenggara become the most remote areas in Indonesia that shown of 21 total regencies there are 13 of it becomes remote areas. Some places are hard to reach because transportation access is difficult. This fact made some modern facilities come slower in those regencies.

East Nusa Tenggara has so many beautiful tourist spots that are worth exploring, such as Komodo Island, Wae Rebo Village, Flores Island, and many more. Some of them are located on higher land that is similar to the highest cities in Indonesia.

6. Mentawai Island

Mentawai Island is one of the most remote areas in Indonesia that is located in West Sumatra. The island is popular with a magnificent view of blue ocean water and white sands, which is worth exploring. Some tourists claim that the ocean wave is perfect for surfing.

Even so, access to reach Mentawai Island needs a long way to go. It takes more than 15 hours to get to the island from West Sumatra. That makes some facilities such as education, public health, transportation, communication, and other public facilities limited there.

7. Donggala Regency

Donggala regency is one of the most remote areas in Indonesia located in Central Sulawesi. The regency has a crowded population among other regencies in Central Sulawesi, and most people live in a poverty there.

Even so, Donggala regency has many popular tourist spots, such as Morowali Island, Tanjung Karang beach, Boneoge beach, Kaluku beach, and many more. Most of them offer the most magnificent scenery of the ocean. Access to reach those places is a bit hard, that because some facilities, such as transportation are limited.

8. Nias Island

Nias Island is one the most remote areas in Indonesia, located in the North of Sumatra. The island has four regencies that lived by most of the Nias tribes as one of the most isolated tribes in Indonesia. It needs more than a 20-hour drive to get to the island from Medan.

Nias Island is a little island with many beautiful places to explore, such as beaches and the ocean to dive into or surf. You can find the most memorable Hombo Batu or the jumping stone two meters high as a sign to do their ritual of coming to an age.
