Indonesia contains so many islands with deep rain forest inside. That makes the country has so many unique plants. Most of them even have an endangered status which makes Indonesian governments make the conservatory area to protect them.

From Sabang to Merauke, Indonesian try so hard to keep some endangered plants in Indonesia from the extinct. So many conservatory areas such as national parks become one of the ways to protect them.

1. Rafflesia Arnoldii

Rafflesia Arnoldii becomes one of the endangered plants in Indonesia that was protected by the Indonesian government since very long time ago. The flower can bloom within two meters wide of the petal as the native flowers of Indonesia. It becomes one of the biggest blooming flowers in the world.

Rafflesia Arnoldii commonly can be found in the middle of the rainforest in Sumatra if you are lucky. They bloomed in certain seasons, which you can’t see once in a year. The rarest type of this flower becomes one of the reasons why the Indonesian government protects them so much.

2. Titan Arum

Titan Arum becomes one of the endangered plants in Indonesia that lives around the Sumatran forest. The flower has a similar familiarity with the Rafflesia Arnoldii, but it will grow higher than the Rafflesia Arnoldii.

Titan Arum can bloom as another type of Indonesian plant with flowers. It has a yellow part as pollen that comes with a beautiful petal in the middle of the flower. It has a stinky unique smell and will only bloom every 20 – 40 years at once.

3. Cendana

Cendana becomes one of the endangered plants in Indonesia that living in a lowland area. It has a unique flower with a specific smell that makes it a unique Indonesian plant. People believe that the smell can hold up to a million years. That is why, these flowers commonly use for perfume, incense, aromatherapy, herbs, and spices.

Besides the great benefits of the flower, the Cendana tree is also has so useful for Cendana oil. The cultivation of the Cendana tree is so difficult even for Indonesian. That makes this plant becomes one of the plants protected by the Indonesian government.

4. Tengkawang

Tengkawang tree originally comes from Kalimantan, and you can only find it there. The existence of Tenkawang becomes extinct from time to time. That is why the Indonesian government even issued a law to protect this kind of tree.

Tengkawang tree is useful for oil known as green butter, cosmetics, soap, wax, herbs, and traditional medicines.  The cultivation of this plant is a bit difficult that makes the amount of the plant becomes rare from time to time.

5. Ulin

Ulin tree becomes one of the endangered plants in Indonesia that lives around the Kalimantan forest. The plant has a typical diameter of around 60 up to 120 cm in width. It becomes one of the most wider trees in Indonesia that lives under the beautiful mountains in Indonesia.

Ulin tree is well-known with the iron tree, which has the best quality of woods. It becomes one of the most salable commodities of woods in Indonesia that has a rare amount lately.

Illegal logging and deforestation make the Ulin tree decreased in amount drastically. That makes the Indonesian government protect this plant so much under the law.

6. Damar

Damar tree has become one of the most endangered plants in Indonesia that are protected by the Indonesian government. The tree has so many benefits that come from the sap of the tree.

The sap of the Damar tree is useful for the main ingredients of plastic, paint, waterproofing tools, textiles covered, and many more. The tree commonly grows in provinces with the largest forests in Indonesia such as Sumatra, Kalimantan, Papua, and Maluku’s forests.

Damar tree is a typical tree that can grow up to 65 meters high. That makes this tree can grow well in the middle of the Indonesian rainforest. With so many benefits of the tree, there causing so much illegal logging. That makes Indonesian should protect the tree as well.

7. Mimba

The Mimba tree becomes one of the most endangered plants in Indonesia that has so many benefits such as the types of citrus that grow in Indonesia. The leaves are useful for some medicine such as anti-inflammation, fever medicine, cardiovascular medicine, and cancer prevention.

The fruit of the Mimba is useful for anti-mosque medicine, whether for sprayer or cream. The wood also has the same benefits as the leaves and the fruit. It helps to prevent some skin diseases, which are helpful for daily usage.

The amount of Mimba trees can be found in some East Java’s forests, such as in Madura. You can also find them around East Lombok and some of the areas in West Java.

8. Bayur

Bayur tree becomes one of the most endangered plants in Indonesia that is protected by the Indonesian government. The amount of the tree becomes in a critical condition that makes their existences are in damage as one of the original types of Indonesian wood.

Bayur trees are commonly found around the Kalimantan forest in only a deep rain forest. The tree has a good quality of wood that is perfect for building houses and some types of furniture. That is why this tree becomes one of the most hunted trees for illegal logging activity in the black market.
