Indonesia has so many faunas that you can easily find them everywhere, includes butterflies. The beauty of butterflies that mind-blowing you, unfortunately, doesn’t spread everywhere in Indonesia.
There are so many types of butterflies in Indonesia that comes from a different region. Even though they come from the same type of insects family, the differents Indonesian landmark they living makes some differents form for them.
That makes you can find so many beautiful butterflies that amazingly exist in Indonesia with so many different types, forms, and colors. Let’s see some of them below!
Bidadari butterfly is one of the Indonesian types of butterfly that originally comes from south Sulawesi. You can easily find them in Bantimurung national park that has the wonderful highest waterfall in Indonesia. It is located in Maros regency, South Sulawesi which is not too far to reach the city.
In Bantimurung national park, it claims by the local government that there are about 557 types of Indonesian butterflies. Most of them come in different types and colors, but the most unique that you can only find there is the Bidadari butterfly.
Bidadari butterfly has a beautiful mix of the color of brown, orange, yellow, and black. Because of their uniqueness, they become one of the conservatory butterflies that are protected by the Indonesian government with the legal law.
Sayap Burung Peri butterfly is one of the most beautiful butterflies in Indonesia that comes from Papua that popular with one of the most beautiful orchids in Indonesia. It has a mixture of green, yellow, and black color with a great gradation. The butterfly is popular with the second larger butterfly in the world after the Ornithoptera Alexandrae.
In Latin names, the Sayap Burung Peri butterfly calls as the Ornithoptera Goliath, or people usually call them Goliath Birdwing. It has about 10.3 – 20.0 cm of wingspan and 7.0 – 11 cm of the forewing length for the male types. As for the female’s type, the wings can be wider about 3 – 4 cm from the men’s wing.
Sayap Burung Priamus butterfly is one of the Indonesian types of butterflies that you can find in the south Moluccas and Papua. This butterfly is one of the families of the Sayap Burung Peri butterfly that call as the Ornithoptera Priamus in Latin.
The Priamus butterfly type has so many subspecies as the butterfly living evolves in nature. Most of them can be found in Yapen, West Papua, Gebe island, Kai island, Biak, West Papua, Seram island, Manipa island, and Aru island that has so many marine tourism places in Indonesia.
Priamus butterfly type has a wonderful mix of colors from green, blue, black, yellow, and brown. Commonly, the female is larger than the male type with a little mix of colors.
Sayap Burung Rothschild Butterfly is one of the Indonesian butterfly types that you can find in Papua that has borderline with New Guinea. It has a similar type to the Priamus butterfly because of its family but has so many grey spots.
Sayap Burung Rothschild Butterfly has one family with the birdwings butterfly so that they have the same natural hybrid. It has about 13 centimeters of wingspan for the male type and the female can be larger than that just like another Priamus birdwings type.
Trogon butterfly is one of the Indonesian butterfly types that come from Sumatra island, Natuna island, and Borneo island that popular with one of the Indonesian cities with the best beaches. The butterfly has Latin names that call as the Trogonoptera Brookiana which lives in most of the Indonesian rain forest.
Trogon butterfly becomes one of the protected birdwings that has unique colors with a mixture of yellow, brown, green, and black. Commonly, the size of both male and female types comes in almost the same length of wingspan. But, the female has more brown color mix than the male type that makes them have a darker look.
Ekor Layang-Layang Butterfly is one of the Indonesian types of butterflies that you can find in Borneo island, Sumatra island, and Javanese island. Commonly they live in landscapes over 2,000 meters above the seawater.
Ekor Layang-Layang butterfly becomes one of the families with the Troides Cuneifera species. They have a beautiful color with a mixture of yellow, brown, and dark. Commonly the female type has a darker brown with yellow spots and larger size than the male.
Raja butterfly is one Indonesian type of butterflies that comes from Halmahera and Ternate, Moluccas island. It has one species with the Danaidae family that consuming some poisons plants such as the Asclepias as their food.
Raja butterfly has a unique mix of colors of orange, brown, and black. On both of the wingspans, there are so many spots that make it different from other butterflies. You will find the Raja butterfly in the summertime. In around November up to February, they migrate to another country and even capable to reach Mexico and Canada.
Raja Haliphron butterfly is one of the Indonesian types of butterflies that spreads in most of South Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara island that popular with one of the most endangered animals in Indonesia. They come from the Papilionidae family that popular with the Troides Helena butterfly which becomes part of common birdwings.
Raja Halihron butterfly has a combination color of black and gold-yellow. The wideband can grow in up to 17 cm which the female type is larger than the male type.
